Beautiful
I just love your work. You are truly a master of this kind of thing.
The background is one that even I wouldn't have been able to think of. It's elegant, gracious, and above all, it matches your style effortlessly.
Now for the finer details:
The first thing I noticed was the eyes. I have look ar rhis a hundred times over, and still can't find anything wrong with it. And the eyes are just absolutely amazing. They're so... what's the word?... instilling. The expression on her face is one of a combination of shyness and innocence, yet with a sense that she is indeed a friendly and approachable gorgeous young woman.
I also like the style of the hair. It just calls out to me, asking me "How do I look?" My only response to that question is that it flows like the calmest river in a still night. It's inviting, cherishable, and highly proper for that flawless complexion.
Next up is the top. What that says to me is that she's quite a lovely young girl. It also says that she appears to be about 18 or 19, which is very appropriate indeed. The style of it is incredibly elegant, and yet surprisingly simple, and would definately catch the attention of any 14-year-old middle school boy ( especially if they fantasize about being with this girl, if you know what I mean. I know I do, but not in that manner.) And another thing, I wish my girlfriend could wear something like that. ;)
I also like the touch with the glasses, because they easily match Maiko's new style. The position of them - the way they sit sit on top her head - is just phenomonal. It's perfect.
The skin tone is also something I could never match, especially with the incredible shading detail that you put in. And besides, I know when I'm outclassed.
Last, but not least - could I say it any other way? - the sparkle. It signifies that Maiko is a friendly, popular, highly successful girl in whatever it is that she does (I've never seen the anime, so I wouldn't know), and cues up very nicely with everything else.
Overall, a true masterpiece. I'm absolutely positive that my art teacher would love to see this. Not that I would pass it off as mine. There's no way I could get away with that. I mean, I'm nowhere near as good as you.
But I digress. I think you should definately make a wallpapered version of this particular piece, with a different color background.
You are truly an Otaku Master. Do not let your talents go to waste, because people LOVE this kind of stuff.
